Cannabis and Pesticide Use

The local countywide ordinance governing the commercial cultivation of cannabis went into effect in late December 2017. Cannabis growers who meet the ordinance requirements and have obtained both their local SLO County land use permit and state cultivation license will also need to obtain an Operator Identification Number (OIN) through the Department of Agriculture if they are using any pesticides (insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc.) during the growing process, including organic pesticides.

Due to marijuana being Federally illegal and since all pesticide labels are federal documents approved by the EPA, currently there are no pesticide products that contain labels with specific instructions for use on cannabis. However, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) has issued two documents regarding pesticide products that can and cannot be used in the production of commercial cannabis:
