Executive Director

The San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau is seeking an Executive Director to provide leadership and management to support the vision and mission of the leading advocate for agriculture on California’s Central Coast. The successful candidate will have an extensive, proven background in government affairs, building and asset management, cost effective management of operations, and accounting oversight; is comfortable with research and policy discussions providing recommendations to a Board of Directors; a demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a diverse board of directors, within a policy and by-law structure; is comfortable making decisions that require a high degree of judgment and in developing the resources needed to maintain the operations and activities of the organization.

Ideally, the candidate will have a substantial understanding of San Luis Obispo County agriculture, the California Farm Bureau Federation, and the American Farm Bureau Federation. The Executive Director is responsible for managing the annual operating budget and the staff.

The ideal candidate will be able to creatively lead an established and well-respected organization into a new period of growth and opportunities. A background in membership, member benefits, and envisioning the needs of future members is a priority. Demonstrated skill in working with our diverse agricultural members and potential members, government and organizational entities, landowners, local communities, potential funders and the public is a must.

The Executive Director develops effective partnerships and strategic alliances; is an energetic, people -person, with a hands-on approach and commitment to improving the economic, educational, political and social conditions of both the organization and its members.

As a high-profile member of the community, the Executive Director also provides direction for communications, public information, public policy, and outreach efforts. Farm Bureau is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to advocating, preserving and sustaining and growing local agriculture.

Membership and Communications Coordinator

Purpose and Function: The qualified candidate will report directly to the Executive Director and work with staff, the Farm Bureau team, and Directors to perform duties related to programs, membership, legislative activities, marketing and
public relations, and other duties required to fulfill the mission statement of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau.

Qualifications:  Candidates with 3 to 5 years employment history are prferred. Employment requires self -motivated, highly organized individuals with excellent verbal and written communication abilities, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of office procedures - including filing, membership needs, communication outreach, legislative process preferred, and a demonstrated interest and commitment to agriculture is expected.

Farm Bureau advocates on behalf of issues import to local agriculture. Employees in all departments are required to understand regulatory issues. Additionally, employees must all participate in meeting the needs of membership through effective and clear communication.

To work well within our structure, the successful candidate must be proficient in Microsoft suite of software, and some Adobe programs, including photoshop.  Must possess a valid California driver's license. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Expected to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work well with fellow employees and volunteers.

Hours: 32 hours per week, hourly. Occasional evening and weekend work is scheduled.
