CDFA Help with Food Safety Program

CDFA - Produce Safety Program

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) will be launching a program accessible to the public, designed to help produce farmers understand the regulations of the Produce Safety Rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act. The new unit under the Inspection Services Division will be called the Produce Safety Program, and will be available next month.

The first step CDFA plans to take is educating farmers on the regulations. Beginning in 2019, the Produce Safety Program will be responsible for conducting on-farm inspectiosn on behalf of the USDA for compliance with the Produce Safety Rule. Inspectors of the CDFA will be required to be credentialed by the FDA, and will have specialized training and education to conduct the routine inspections on behalf of the USDA. For more information on the Produce Safety Rule refer to our Food Safety Modernization Act Regulations page.
