The California Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation was organized to give aid to students with a desire to pursue a career in the agricultural industry. The scholarships are awarded annually based upon academic achievement, career goals, extracurricular activities, determination, leadership skills, and a commitment to study agriculture.
Who is eligible?
Any undergraduate student entering or attending a four-year accredited college or university in California and pursuing a career in the agricultural industry. Students entering or attending a junior college are not eligible. Students must be a resident of the State of California.
How many scholarships are given, and in what amount?
Each year, the Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors determine the award amounts depending on the funds available. In recent years, the range has been $1,800 to $2,750, for approximately 30 recipients each year.

The San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau Women are pleased to announce the availability of the 2008 Farm Bureau Women’s scholarships. Qualified recipients can apply to receive $500 to further his or her education at a university, community college or trade school.
To qualify for this scholarship, one must be a member, a dependent or child/grandchild of a member of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau or the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau Women, in good standing, since September of the previous year prior to the application; or a member for four years of either a San Luis Obispo County 4-H or a San Luis Obispo County Future Farmers of America; or a college student who graduated from a San Luis Obispo County high school and for at least two years has been enrolled in an agriculturally-related major.
In 2007, eight scholarships were awarded by the Farm Bureau Women. The recipients included Patricia Harris, Templeton; Brandon Weibe, Paso Robles; Kelsey Soderstrom, San Luis Obispo; Lisa Henry, Paso Robles; Katie Jo Switzer, Atascadero; James Teixeira, Nipomo: Jacob Gardener, Nipomo; and Amee Herbstreith, Nipomo. Farm Bureau Scholarship awards for 2007 totaled $4,000.
Funds for the scholarship are raised mainly through the sale of straw brooms, vintage and new aprons and See’s Candy. The women also hand-mix a “just-add-water” bean soup mix that is a hit countywide.
The Farm Bureau Women also support youth activities, the Women’s Shelter and Achievement House. You will find them at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, advocating for agriculture and selling their wares. Farm Bureau Women meet on the second Monday of each month, except July and August, alternating between North and South County. Meetings are at lunch and feature informational programs.

SLO YF&R is pleased to announce they will be awarding two scholarships of $1,000 each to graduating high school seniors in San Luis Obispo County that plan to continue their agriculture education.
The purpose of the scholarship is to promote agriculture education in the county by honoring students with interest in the issues agriculture faces. The scholarship’s qualifications are based on the applicant’s previous involvement in agriculture and current knowledge of agriculture issues in the county.
By providing this scholarship, YF&R's goal is to help local high school students enhance their awareness of issues that directly affect the future of agriculture - not just on a local level, but on a state and national level.
At the same time we are sending a message to the community that we are an organization that believes in the importance of securing the future of agriculture at the local level.

Our organization is committed to education and assistance to further the pursuits of our young people, both men and women, that plan to seek careers in an agriculture related field.

Central Coast Greenhouse Growers Association

The Central Coast Greenhouse Growers Association will again offer two scholarships to local students currently attending a high school between Lompoc and San Luis Obispo (seniors only) and current students at Allan Hancock College, Cuesta College, and Cal Poly.
All applications must be submitted via email to Angela Thompson except for letters of recommendation and transcripts (which will be accepted via mail).

The Foundation for Agriculture Awareness and California Mid-State Fair Heritage Foundation Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors and college students who have participated in the Mid-State Fair within the last three years. Applicants must be SLO County resident. Completed applications must be returned to the Farm Bureau by TBA.
