Edna Farm Center
Among the original Farm Centers founded in 1922, Edna Farm Center has continued to be active and involved throughout the history of SLO Co. Farm Bureau in the county. Edna Farm center, in keeping with tradition, has sponsored many historical preservation events. In 1994, the center sponsored the "Cattle Brand History Preservation Barbecue" at the Farm Bureau office. Guests of the event had their brands imprinted onto wooden plaques for the Farm Bureau to develop a historical collection. This collection is displayed in the Farm Bureau conference room.
The Edna region has seen many changes in agriculture over the last 100 plus years. In the early years the region was home to many dairy and cattle ranches along with dry land farming and some irrigated agriculture. The land was then intensified with new agriculture technologies to support more crops, including those that we see today: bell peppers, napa cabbage, numerous varieties of lettuce and copious amounts of wine grapes.
Edna Farm Center currently meets on the first Thursday of every month excluding the summer months. Dinner is provided along with a speaker from the agriculture community.
Edna Farm Center is also very well known for its Christmas dinner, for which it is known to attract members from throughout the county.
Annual Edna Farm Center Christmas Dinner 2009
Hosted at the Madonna inn, the Edna Christmas Dinner drew a crowd of over 85 Farm Bureau friends and family. Edna Farm Center Chairwoman, Janet Andrews pictured left with Farm Bureau President Richard Gonzales, did a wonderful job in coordinating such a wonderful evening to share with family and friends.
