Canadian Phytosanitary Certification Requirements
June 26, 2007 -
According to the San Luis Obispo Department of Weights and Measures, no Light Brown Apple Moths (LBAM) have been detected in SLO County.
However, in response to the LBAM infestations in nine other California counties, Canada has imposed additional requirements on agricultural exports from all California counties. Although San Luis Obispo County is considered a non-infested area, shipments containing LBAM host material originating in San Luis Obispo County will be required to meet Canada's new regulations by June 25th, 2007.
Whereas many commodities were previously permitted entry into Canada without an accompanying phytosanitary certificate, one will now be required when shipping cole crops, listed fresh fruits and vegetables, and cut flowers/foliage. Click here for a complete listing of commodities requiring certification.
Shipments in transit prior to June 25, 2007 are exempt from the new
regulations. However, a warning letter will be issued for those
shipments informing shippers that the new Canadian regulations exist.
All shipments with scheduled shipping dates on or after June 25, 2007
must be certified and accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate.
